Reasons to Love San Francisco (photo essay)
In no particular order. Click on any photo to see larger or accompanying commentary.
Gorgeous weather, gorgeous views, large bodies of water...
Every frickin' photo you take ends up looking like art, because the city looks like art
Amazingly atmospheric restaurants and diverse cuisine
A proud literary history...and, even better:
Lesbians in cowboy hats and leather doing vibrator karaoke
There are stars in the sidewalk. Sigh...

From your description, and other people's, I also think that SF is a place that would...well, not *make* me happy, but at least I would be in a great place. That helps.

I've lived in the Bay area for about 12 years now. I loved the place when I came, I love the place even more now.
Lot's of lifelong residents bemoan that The City (that's how residents always capitalize it) isn't what it used to be, and they're probably right. It's an area of nearly 7 million people so it does have problems, but at least for my money, it's still better than most places.
Glad you enjoyed your visit.

Hiromi:
Let's you and me move there and do that town till it can't take anymore. After we become multimillionaires and can afford to live there. Or, nah, we don't have to wait to become millionaires. We can impose on Omnipotent Poobah. Surely he has real estate to spare. Eh, OP? ;-P
Omnipotent Poobah:
I am insanely jealous. All the good cities are taken.

Made me homesick, in a good way.

I have a house with a 16'x 8' backyard, but I bought in before the real estate boom, so I'm damn near a land baron in these parts. Good view though.
Come on down!

Omni, you got a garage? Syl and I can flip a coin to decide who gets the garage or a tent in your backyard.

Mu Ling: Awww. Well, at least in a nice way.
Poobah, Hiromi: Poobah, you are too generous. And Hiromi, nice try but there's no fucking WAY I'm sleeping in a tent. I mean, really--do I in ANY WAY give off the vibe of a woman who seems OUTDOORSY? PuhLEESE. I NEED electrical appliances. I'm comandeering the garage.

It's Cali, Syl. Forget tent, let's go all bucky fuller and build a geodesic dome.
And i tellya, my neighborhood could be vastly improved by having you two ladies as neighbors.

So glad you had a great time, these photos are wonderful. SF is still one place I haven't been yet, although Lady L keeps saying we're going together!

Karl Elvis: As anywhere you are it's a party, I'd happily enter your dome, or tent, or whatever. But man, you live in the suburbs. Why not come and live in the city with me and Hiromi? More fun.

Dodger:
Oh, DO go, by all means. I now think it's the best city on earth. Um, except for the earthquakes.
If you guys do go, I got a great deal on my little budget hotel. If you want, I'll tell you the name and all.

You and me and H sharing a roof? The mind boggles.
12. Posted by Elvis on November 5, 2006
Karl Elvis: It certainly does. I mean, for one, just THINK of all the amazing cooking that'd be going on.
And yeah, I do know there's a double meaning in there.
