Death Disney

Well, this may seem totally out of left field after my last post, but it was just too damn delightful to pass up. Made me laugh right out loud.

And there's a lovely synchronicity to finding this tonight, as earlier in the evening, I happened to find Mary Poppins playing on TV and spent a few hours singing every single song and repeating every single line.

Found via my dream man Neil Gaiman. And he's right, they should have kept the original title. Otherwise, it's perfect:

By the way, if you're a Mary Poppins geek like I am, you should also check out Neil Gaiman's interesting post about the true nature of Mary Poppins (scroll down about midway--it begins under the break line).

They try and try but can't make Poppins very scary, but I love that video mashup anyway, it rules.

Mary Poppins scared the crap out of me when I saw it the first time. Disney films shouldn't be shown to kids. I'm scarred for life from my brushes with them.

D'you know, there's supposedly a Broadway musical either in the works or currently on the stage that's a strange mashup of the Disney music with the "real" (read: strict, scarier) version of Mary Poppins?

But then, I always thought there was something creepy about that "Feed the Birds" song. The key's all wrong.

Karl Elvis and Omnipotent Poobah: Sounds like we've got a difference of opinion here. "Mary Poppins or Scary Poppins? You be the judge."

Sara: Yeah, I heard some feature on NPR about the musical, but don't remember much about what I heard.

There isn't one Disney movie I can think of that doesn't have at least one scary/creepy element. Adults who don't keep watching the films forget, and recall them fondly as sweet films. But there are moments in even the animated ones, especially the older ones, that always send at least a few small kids screaming from the theaters.
