Does Anyone Know the Origin of the Word "Hardcore?"
Just thought I'd ask. Because I'm tired and my feats of Google are not up to their usual standard.

(whistling noise) Pretty fancy smancy in here Syl. I recall you debating whether or not to make the switch quite some time ago. You gave in I see. It turned out pretty nice. Anyways, I just thought I would stop by and see what the good word was. As for the request, no I dont want to google it either.

Hi Syl,
The full version would have its first recorded use but the Compact Oxford English Dictionary
1 the most committed or doctrinaire members of a group.
2 popular music that is experimental in nature and typically characterized by high volume and aggressive presentation.
3 pornography of a very explicit kind.
4 (Brit.) broken bricks and rubble used as a filling or foundation in building (another site adds "in an emergency" so maybe it's a civil engineering or Army Corps of Engineers term? That's just a guess though.)
That and a couple of etymology sites mention that it's been a term meaning "tought" since 1951.
I hope that helps.

Hi Tory, glad you like the new place.
Thanks Figleaf. I did see the #4 version and wondered if that's where it got started. Wish we had the complete dictionary...
Retropolitan: I don't want to discuss felching with you. Last time I brought it up, you disappeared for two months.

Hallo,
Well this is weird, leaving my first comment for this, and so late too. But I like your site and visit often, and I'm a hardcore err word geek so I had to track this down further.
